Built on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, this initiative is among the first of its kind in India’s automotive industry. Under the programme, an automotive manufacturing facility has been established within prison premises to provide inmates with skill development and employment opportunities. The project has created a meaningful avenue for rehabilitation, enabling inmates to earn an income while serving their sentences and support their families from within the prison itself.
Objectives of the Programme
- Providing Market-Relevant Skills: Training inmates in practical skills that increase their employability.
- Ensuring Financial Stability: Offering wages to inmates so they can support their families and build savings.
- Encouraging Positive Behavioural Changes: Engaging inmates in productive work instils discipline, responsibility and self-confidence.
- Facilitating Post-Release Reintegration: Preparing inmates to seamlessly transition into mainstream society with dignity.
- Reducing Recidivism: Providing employment and skills reduces the likelihood of returning to crime after release.
- Rehabilitation & Reintegration: Reduce recidivism by making inmates self-sufficient and productive members of society post-release.
